Imagine: one in the morning, insomnia, and suddenly the thought arises - what would Russian people look like if they spoke Armenian as their native language? But you immediately feel sad, because it seems that you will never know the answer.
I have two news for you, and, oddly enough, both are good:
1️⃣ Armenia is much
more multifaceted than it seems. Assyrians, Greeks, Yezidis, Kurds and... Russians have lived here for centuries. And no, I’m not hype about the relocant theme. I'm talking about Molokans. Just so you understand: these are people who don’t use TVs, while you get hysterical if the lights are turned off for half an hour. For those who are familiar with American culture: they are in many ways similar to the Amish. They live mainly in the villages of Lermontovo and Fioletovo. It’s always a few degrees cooler here—they say it was the Molokans who brought “Siberian” weather with them. Believe it or not - decide for yourself.
2️⃣ Route. If you want to see a piece of the Russian hinterland in the middle of the Caucasus mountains, don't forget your camera. For these villages are located on the Vanadzor-Dilijan road, and the beauty of these places is incredible: alpine meadows and dense forests. For pretentious Instagram photos, this is it. 📸
What to do right now?
Go for “alpine” views, buy the famous sauerkraut (it is considered the best in the world!) and be amazed at the contrasts. Here you can equally successfully address passers-by in both Russian and Armenian.
Let me know if you have an unusual question the next time you're sleepless - who knows, maybe we can help with that too. 😉
P.S. It’s especially pleasant to come here in the summer from the sultry capital: when Yerevan is under forty, there is blissful coolness and fresh air. 🏔🌿
