Archaeological complex Karmir Blur fortress (Teishebaini)

Karmir Blur (“Red Hill”) is the remains of the grandiose fortified city of Teishebaini from the 7th century BC, built by King Rusa II. The hill got its name because of the reddish tint of the soil, formed after a fire and the destruction of mud brick walls. Today it is an important historical and archaeological open-air museum-reserve. In May, the hill is covered with many bright wild flowers, and from its top there is an excellent panorama of the Hrazdan River, the outskirts of Yerevan and the majestic Mount Aragats.
